The weekend is finally here, which means it’s time to recap another one of my favorite local cocktail spots in one of my favorite cocktail dresses! Anvil Bar & Refuge is a cozy, elegant bar with historical roots and vintage design. The brick walls and wood flooring give Anvil a tavern-y feel, while the lively atmosphere keeps the place young and fresh.
This is the perfect Friday night hang out spot in Houston. It’s great for date night or night with the girls. It’s definitely my go to place.
Anvil also takes the cake in terms of their cocktail list, which boasts 100 specialty drinks with names like “Badminton Cup,” “Battle of New Orleans,” and “Bourbon & Brandy Milk Punch.” Best of all, they serve their drinks in fancy vintage glassware, all finds discovered at local shops. It’s a great spot to settle if you’re looking for a night of good conversation with good friends, and if you’re up for trying some old cocktail recipes collected from the past.
My favorite drink is the Pliney, which consists of gin and a spicy, made in house concoction. It has a spicy and refreshing taste and reminds me of spring/summer time.
So if you don’t feel like raging at a sweaty club with lots of people yelling in your ear, I suggest finding a place like Anvil to transition into a relaxing weekend. Let’s be honest here…after just 2 of these drinks you’ll probably find yourself at the club dancing it up. This fly, green dress is the perfect universal transition.1
