Being that it was Earth Day Saturday I wanted to do something fun and document my new herb garden on my blog. Ever since Aaron and I got married I’ve been able to ramp up my cooking game. All my recipes tend to be more organic (mostly vegan) and homemade. I realized how much I was spending on herbs and veggies. A few weeks ago I decided to try my skills out on an herb garden. From the little I know of gardening, herbs seem to be quite easy. They are actually considered a weed. Did you know that? I didn’t.
After my massage with Zeel (discount code: ashleef25 for $25 off) Saturday morning I went to Buchanan’s on 11th in the Heights. They definitely set the bar high for my first garden experience. Buchanan’s has a lot to see and discover. But I had to stay focused…so off to the herb section I went. The staff was very helpful and instead of having only one person help me, I decided to ask several people question so I could get different perspectives.
The top 3 things you need to know:
- Herbs need LOTS of sun
- Only water when soil is dry
- Basil and Mint need their own pots as they tend to take over the other herbs
I picked up lavender, sage, parsley, thyme and rosemary. This is a good start. I’ll see how this week goes and if the “weeds” survive one week then I’m going to head back and pick up some lemongrass, tea leaves, cilantro and mint.
If you follow my snapchat and instagram stories you saw how excited I was to begin. So wish me luck, I’ll be keeping you all posted.
