Attention all self proclaimed Amazon addicts. Wanna know how to to keep your kids busy? Do you always shop Amazon? This post is for the parents who are trying to avoid TV and Ipads. To each their own, but don’t you remember how fun it was to play outside? I want to be THAT fun mom with lots of creative activities.
We never want to hinder a kids creativity and that is why I am so anti TV right now. I want Navy to always be able to explore her creative side and not be locked into something she saw on TV. At this age kids are influenced by everything they see and it is imperative that a child develops their personality based on their family surroundings!
keeping kids busy via Amazon
I’m no doctor, but it bothers me because of the quick screen scene change. I feel as if the rapid movements tend to shorten their attention span. Its pretty well known that it can cause ADHD. I am all for older cartoons that are slower and allows more time to process. For example 80’s Sesame Street! Again, just an opinion. (-:
Sure going to the local library is a great idea but getting out and about just doesn’t always work. Here are some creative ways kids can develop motor skills AND keep busy.
Bath Time
A great way to have family bonding time. Coloring in the bath allows kids to be creative while also not getting messy. These toys are sure to keep your kids entertained until their skin goes pruney! The fishing pole may be for bath time but we play with this around the house every day!
Painting
Starting Easter of this year when we start dying eggs, then we start painting. I am so excited about this. Aren’t artsy children just the cutest? Throw on a smock and put em’ outside and they are getting vitamin D, fresh air and getting creative all at once.
Maps & Globes
Talk about education! Navy can already tell me where Asia, Antartica and North America are. She even tells me that whales are in the ocean. Her sound effects are too cute especially when the whale goes, “woosh in the ocean”.
Flip Books
Now you reaalllyyy want to occupy your kids time? Flip books for the win. Keeping your kids busy is a breeze with these books. I listed the ones we have below under Navy’s favorites. Anywhere from 30 minutes and even an hour. Great for days when you’re stuck indoors, going to Church or road trips. Does your kid sit with you at Church? Flip Book.
Kitchen
My little helper. Navy loves to “help” in the kitchen which all that means is I cut up herbs and she will put it in the pan. She will also put salt in for me and loves to stir! This girl will be doing dishes before too long. Until then, here are some kid kitchen essentials. Can we talk about this coffee machine? She is such a copy cat and loves to do everything mommy is doing.
Music Time
I know music can often time drive a parent crazy, but the creative development music promotes is worth it for a couple annoying years before they can learn how to really read music. Navy’s first birthday I bought her a piano. I look forward to the day she personally picks out an instrument that she wants to learn!
Puzzles
Talk about how to keep your kids busy, this is a great way to throw in shapes, animals, alphabet and colors into the mix. Sure, by the time they’re done, you’re the one cleaning up but knowing that they are playing and learning is worth it.
Navy’s Favorites
Not only is this Navy’s favorite, but mine too. I’ll be sure to add to this list as we go along and she finds more faves. But for now here are some of the toys you see me talking about and playing with her on social media. The tunnel…. she can go back and forth 200 times. Anything leapfrog learning friend I love, but this one below is interactive and perfect for a car ride. We have one in each car! These buildable blocks can keep her busy while I even take a shower. Its perfect while she sits on the floor and I can see her because she doesn’t go through all the drawers. This kitchen y’all. While I make dinner, Navy loves to play with her kitchen set. She makes soup everyday. Sure it has apples, grapes, carrots and tomatoes, but mmmm it tastes delicious! LOL
Do you remember the placemat we got from Walmart with the ABC’s on it? Navy lives for that. She will often times bring it to me while cooking and sit on the floor next to me. We will sing the ABC song and she will point to each animal and copy the sound they make. It’s the cutest!
What tricks do you have up your sleeve to keep your kids busy? These are my saving grace to help prevent her from getting bored. And I bet we could all brush up on our geography! History is another story. Keep posted for 4th grade homework help… EEK.
