Let me start by saying, ” I am not a chef”. These recipes are just ideas I’ve thought up on my own. I won’t share the recipes tried that were a total fail. Which is partly why coming up with Navy’s baby food purees have taken me some time. Some ingredients simply don’t mix. Also, make sure you check back because I’m new at this and will add recipes as I create them. The point is to add more than the normal plane Jane purees for Navy Lee. My goal is for her to have a well refined palate and not a lover of pizza and chicken fingers (no offense to those who are).
Most of these I’ve given to Navy and some are on my list to make for her. Another thing you can do is steam all your veggies separately and then when you’re ready to create pull out what you need from the freezer, little by little.
Navy is 7 months and we are having solids 2 times a day. Early morning and afternoon. The plan is to have her on 3 times a day by 9 months but we will see if that works. I am still breastfeeding along with each of these meals.
There’s not a given amount I go by on each one of these. Start off with a small amount. As you mix, taste to see if you want to add more seasoning/herbs.
The Nutri-bullet has been working perfectly for me. Others swear by the Vitamix. Either one I think will do the job. To steam the veggies and herbs I use Babymoov and LOVE it.
Navy’s Baby Food Recipes (purees)
Apples + Cinnamon (1/4 tsp)
Carrots + Basil
Peas + Kale + Pear or Apple
Potato + Dill
Sweet Potato + Basil
Sweet Potato + Pear
Pear + Ginger
Banana + All Spice
Chicken + Sage
Blueberries and Avocado (Navy’s favorite)
We’ve been adding powdered peanut butter into her bananas this week. Our pediatrician said 1/2-1 teaspoon mixed with a fruit for 3-4 days in a row. So far we are good. Being over cautious I started with 1/4 teaspoon and will work my way up.
I’m pretty sure this goes without saying but make sure you talk to your child’s pediatrician before trying your own blends. Each child is different.
For more baby stuff you can check out my baby registry. There is great information for gifting in there too.

Hi Ashlee!
Great recommendations. My kids also loved sweet potato mixed with apple. Talk to your pediatrician, but it may not be a bad idea to try puréed scrambled eggs since eggs are another high allergy food in kids. Our pediatrician encouraged trying all the high allergy foods earlier rather than later to prevent allergy. For a while my daughter would only eat eggs scrambled with lots of cheese but now she’ll eat them scrambled in just a little butter or boiled. Eggs are an easy nutrient packed go-to breakfast in our house!
Thank you. I’ll add more idea this week. Eggs were recommended by pediatrician. Best to start certain foods earlier in life. But 100% that’s recommended for us. Everyone is different. We don’t eat diary products.
Thanks for the ideas and all the great info! I actually made my son purée foods when he was just getting into purées but never thought of any of the combos you listed. Going to pin your post on Pinterest so I can reference it whenever we have baby #2.
Thanks for sharing! So easy… will have to try some of these. Navy is so cute!!
I seriously love making my babies baby food! My youngest is almost 9 months now so we are slowly getting away from purées and more into eating what we are except smaller bites.
Me too. Love it.
Great recommendations! I hope this helps mamas realize it doesn’t take much to make your own baby food and it’s great for your babe:)
Thank you for posting what veggies and fruits would mix well! I’ve always had a hard time venturing out with different veggies other than sweet potatoes and bananas! Will definitely try these!!!
Love the ideas! We are going to start feeding our baby food next week!
Fuuuun. Let me know how it goes.
Love all the spices that were included in the purées. I never thought of doing that. Also, love Navy’s bow! She’s just adorable.
Thank you so much for sharing with us. Im about to start solid food for my baby and was looking for a good baby food maker, the one you posted definitely looks like something id give a try.
