Oh do I have something special for you all. Have any of you tried SheaMoisture yet? I have been antsy to get this product in my hands and check it out for myself ever since I saw it on my favorite morning gossip shows, The Wendy Williams Show and The Real. Let’s do just that, talk real. First time I saw an ad for SheaMoisture I thought it was for hair of other ethnicities. I am here to tell you differently.
Let’s begin with talking about my hair. It has not always been my favorite attribute. It’s frizzy and unruly. The strands are thin yet there’s a ton of it. I’ve always envied those girls that can jump out of the shower with wet hair and it dries in perfect form. I was over here with my big, curly hair, representing the 80’s like no one’s business. It wasn’t until the Jennifer Aniston hair on Friends became a thing. This was a look I could actually pull off without a ton of teasing. My hair was big enough.
Over the years I have done some damage. I’ve been bleach blonde, dark brown, red, back to blonde, then added low lights AND highlights. Then finally settling about three years ago with more of an ombré look. You all remember the day I showed up to Women Tell All.
Needless to say, the damage was done. About two years ago I came to the point where I was done. I was over the expensive hair trips every month that ran me into the hundreds of dollar range, spending a bajillion on products and still not being satisfied with how my hair felt. So, I took matters into my own hands. I took out my hair extensions, got a Brazilian blowout, to help smooth out the frizz, and switched to no sulfate, no parabens shampoo & conditioner.
About a month ago I found the product SheaMoisture. I purchased the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner as well as the Curl Enhancing Smoothie for thick, curly hair. I’ve been taking it with me on all my traveling ventures and that’s a true test of a good product. Does it work in hot temp climate? How well does it hold up when it’s cold? It’s been great in both cases. I was a fan on the very first wash. Yeah, yeah, yeah, people say that all the time but for this product it really was the case. If you’re not used to no sulfate shampoos then this product will take a little bit to get used to. Once you do, I promise you won’t want to go back to product with sulfates.
Here are a few more things my hippie/tree hugging heart want you to know about SheaMoisture. It is cruelty free, ethically traded and made with certified organic ingredients. I can’t name one other product that actually works and is healthy for the environment. The last great feature is it’s easy to find in the general market hair care aisle of your local Walmart.
There you have it. The diary of my hair’s life. It’s been a journey but it’s getting stronger and healthier each day. I can’t wait for it to continue to grow, shine and feel amazing. #EveryBodyGetsLove @SheaMoisture
